Posting of pictures in the EEI photo gallery is open to current participants (who will be required to post pictures of field study and volunteer work as academic assignments), and
program alumni (who may create personal photo albums of their Costa Rica experience). However, it is very likely that not all of your personal pictures are appropriate for posting on this web site. See 'Guidelines' (below) for details.
If you are a current participant, see more information here.
If you are an alumni, see details here.

Top of page Guidelines
All pictures and associated descriptions must be of a professional nature. As such, we require that you adhere to the following content guidelines: a) Post ONLY pictures associated with your stay in Costa Rica/Central America. You may include pictures from program activities or personal travel, but pictures from elsewhere are inappropriate; b) Indecent or otherwise offensive pictures are NOT permitted; c) Bar scenes, or pictures exemplifying partying or excessive alcohol consumption are NOT permitted. Pictures of this sort will be deleted immediately, and posting privileges revoked for that person. If in doubt regarding acceptable content, please contact us ahead of time.

Top of page Instructions
In order to successfully post your pictures on the photo gallery, you will need to perform the following steps:
1. Prepare the pictures for posting
In order for pictures to be posted on the photo gallery, they MUST adhere to the following guidelines, or uploading will be denied: a) File type. Only Jpeg (example.jpg) picture formats are acceptable. This is the format used by digital cameras; b) File dimensions. The picture dimensions must not exceed 400 pixels (maximum width or height). Note: A 'normal' horizontal picture, if 400 pixels wide, would be 400W x 300H. This can be set on most digital cameras; c) File size. The maximum file size is 50KB, although for most pictures between 10KB and 30KB is of sufficient quality for our purposes. At this time, each registered user is allocated a maximum space of 500 KB in total. Thus, the smaller the size of your files, the more pictures you can upload (at a lower picture quality). On average, your allocated space translates into being able to post between 20 and 30 pictures each. If you would like to post pictures that you already have which are larger in dimensions or file size, you will have to resize them on your digital camera (if it has that function), or using a photo editing software program (e.g., Photoshop, Paint, Coreldraw, Photo Studio, Photo Deluxe, ACDsee). Simple photo editing programs are commonly already installed on your computer, and most digital cameras also come with at least one such program. When you are preparing your pictures, you may also want to oriented them correctly (if they were taken vertically), although this can also be done in the photo gallery after uploading.

2. Register as a photo gallery user
In order to be able to upload pictures, you must first become a registered user. To to this, click on 'register' (put the cursor over the @ sign to see the option). You will need to select a name and password, and enter your e-mail address. Once submitted, you will be e-mailed a confirmation with a link. By clicking on the link in the e-mail message you will confirm your address and are automatically registered.

3. Login & upload your pictures
Once registered, you may return to the site and login (put the cursor over the @ sign to see the option). If you are posting pictures to the "program activities" or "case study" albums (which are created by the administrator), you can upload pictures
directly to the appropriate album by clicking on 'upload file' (put the cursor over the @ sign to see the option). If you want to post your own pictures, you will need to create an album first (you will see the option if you are in "admin" mode-- see FAQ on the photo gallery page under the @ sign). For each image you upload, the program will automatically create a thumbnail (smaller) image. However, you will need to select an album to put it in, as well as provide a title, description (up to 512 characters), keywords, location, and date. Repeat the process as appropriate for each uploaded picture. When you are done, please do not forget to logout (put the cursor over the @ sign to see the option).

For more information, see the FAQ on the the photo gallery page. HINT: If it seems that nothing is happening when you are trying to perform any action, hit 'reload' in your browser.

I am more than ready and want to enter the photo gallery now!
